Conventions of a Trailer

-Trailers can sometime involve footage or moments in the film that are actually not included in the actual film. For example showing some spectacular 3D CGI that is not featured within the films itself.

- Trailer almost always include a title sequence and information which includes stars, directors, producers, release date and technology I.E. 3D or 2D. 

- Major stars will be mentioned early in the trailer because they will often make fans of that star, want to go see that movie or not. 

- Often movies will be linked with the director because they have directed films that have been previously popular or liked. For example 'by the creators of...' 

- Blockbusters often have epic 'movie man' voiceovers that tell small amount about the film.

- Trailer scores and trailer soundtrack or music are almost always used to show the genre of the movie and to tell if it is a comedy a horror.

Thoughts about Movie Trailers

Trailers can be used to create hype and awareness for an upcoming film. They can help establish a films basic story line and create interest in possible viewers and audience. For example Spider Man 3 an action blockbuster featured during this summer, featured lots of 3D CGI work that would appeal to many viewers.


In this trailer we can see lots of visually appealing shots and effects including impressive CGI work. They also provide information about the release date and time, the stars that will be featured in it, the director and possibly even  what some critics have to say about the film.

The dark knight is a multi million film that had mega funding, It features amazing and impressive CGI work and expensive explosions. We can also notice from the film that the stars of the movie are shown in text early on in the trailer. This would help generate hype for the film. It also has a voice over that can create tension and suspense. It also includes a lot of the big fight scene. We also notice that the director is mentioned as he is a reason many will see the film. There is a specific 'epic soundtrack' that would have been especially produced for the film alone. All the details of the films are displayed clearly. There are also a list of long shots that can almost show the large scale of the film.
